自分にこれができるのは、それは努力したからだ、と胸を張って言える人は言えばいい。けれど、努力することすらできなかった人、スタートラインにすら立てなかった人がいることを、時には思い出した方がいい。自分の「努力」なるものが、さまざまな偶然の積み重ねのなかでいかにちっぽけなものだったかがわかるだろう。同時に、何かができない人をバカにしたり、軽く扱ったりすることが、まったく根拠のないことであるか、ということも。
